A Few of My Favorite Things

Fresh lavender cuttings from my garden....

Cubbies of all shapes and sizes....

Vintage etched mirrors....

 Bottles used as vases....

Architectural elements of all sorts....

Chandies with lots of crystals....

 Little decorative details....

And going to the beach with the family.
(our middle son is missing from this picture)

Our favorite Shore resort is Ocean City, New Jersey,
where we will be all week.

Hope you all have a good week too,

My Little Sitting Room

I had every intention of selling this vintage
watercolor of roses.

But it just seemed to fit perfectly on the white cupboard
in my little sitting room upstairs.

If you remember my previous post, the vignette started with
just the watercolor and mother's day roses....

which was very pretty in its simplicity. But
I don't ever seem to stop at simplicity.

Is anyone else like that?

The little floral tins coordinate perfectly, don't you think?

The iron urn with greens provides an anchor to all the fluff.

This is my little happy place.

I tend to gravitate here at the end of the day.

Blessings,
Mary Alice

Mother's Day Roses

My daughter was away Mother's Day weekend, so before she left on Friday she surprised me with a delicious breakfast and some beautiful roses. I've enjoyed them for a week and can't bear to discard them yet.

I noticed they mimicked the roses in a vintage watercolor
that I found over the weekend.

I love all the soft pastels.

I layered another frame with sweet roses in the corners.

Just thought it fit nicely into my roses theme.

I think I'll keep my Mother's Day roses until the petals fall off.

Thank you so much for visiting today,

Mary Alice

The Battle of the Bunny

The bunnies are back and they are looking very plump indeed!

Probably because they've been feasting in my flower beds.
This sad little plant was loaded with yellow pansies a day ago.

I don't understand how they can eat the prickly rose bushes.

I more or less stick with containers for my annuals.

I guess the bunnies haven't figured out yet how to jump
onto the bench to get to the flowers.

There must be enough going on at ground level for them to munch on.

They sure seem to be enjoying my herbs this year.

Not much left of them.

I salvaged the thyme and cilantra and put them in pots on the deck.

I'm sure hoping the bunnies stay away from the hydrangeas.
Look at all the buds getting ready to open soon.

In year's past I've tried everything to deter the all too friendly bunnies.

Nothing seems to work!

At least they stay away from my lavender.

Any suggestions for keeping the bunnies away?

Mirrored Door and Market Basket

My daughter graduated from JMU last May and has since been living at home while working in  D.C. As she anticipates moving into her own place, she periodically reminds me what she wants to take with her from our home. Sometimes I even find stickers on furniture or accessories with her name claiming that piece. One such piece that I won't part with....not even for my daughter....is the mirrored door that I have propped on the stairwell landing.

 Definitely a keeper....sorry, Megan.

Lucky for Megan, I recently came across another mirrored door
and quickly snatched it up.

It has some great detail and
I love the aging on the beveled mirror.

On another note....

Do you see the market basket with leather handles
sitting next to the bistro chair?

I just bought this from my good friends Karin and Michelle
who have their own little shop, Joie de Vivre, at
On A Whim in Lucketts. Their space is in the
right corner at the top of the stairs.

They carry two sizes of these wonderful baskets
that are imported from the south of France.

I actually bought this one to use at the beach.
Perfect for carrying towels, reading material, snacks......

Speaking of the beach.....I am so ready!!

Blessings,

Mary Alice

My Bedroom is Green

Yes, our master bedroom is green. I mention this only because my favorite color is blue, and for some reason our bedroom has been green a long time. Trying to remember why....I think it had something to do with the rug in the bathroom.

When I first noticed this
charming top of a cabinet, it was sitting
on a table in the middle of the aisle of an antique store.

Distressed layers of chippy paint draws me in every time.

What initially caught my attention was the side of this little cupboard.

Yup....the distressed green color.

So....you know what happens....your brain starts working overtime
trying to think where it could go in your home....especially
since I don't have a lot of green going on.

Look at all the layers of yummy paint!

The inside of the cupboard did get a little clean up.

A new beadboard back and painted shelves did the trick.

Charming cupboards or cabinets are perfect
for vintage collections....and perfect for
my green bedroom!

Thanks for stopping by!

Blessings,

Mary Alice
